With a stellar roster of judges that included Jonathan Velasco of the World Choir Council, Fidel Calalang Jr of the UST Singers, Jai Sabas-Aracama of the UP Concert Chorus, Ed Manguiat of the UP Singing Ambassadors, and Sebastian Trinidad of the Mandaluyong Children's Choir, QCPA topped Koro del Pilar of Malolos National High School, with Coro Angelitos of Isabelo de los Reyes Elementary School taking third, and Commonwealth Elementary School settling for fourth place.  QCPA is a fledgling ensemble trained by conductor Nick Infante with support from the office of Quezon City Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte-Alimurung.

In the Open derby, Baguio-based SLU took sweet revenge over erstwhile defending champion University of the Visayas with a unanimous win that gave them a clear 1.8-point margin over the Cebuanos despite a 3-point deduction on their 6-minute overtime.  Pouring it on with a power-packed vocal performance and masterful choreography, SLU with Normita Rio-Pablico conducting, showed its determination to win, having prepared for the contest for 12 months, following their heartbreaking loss to UV last year by a mere fraction of a point.

Flashing its flair for popular entertainment, UV's sister group Koro Ilustrado, now poised to become the country's premier all-male chorale,  trailed the Cebuanos by only one point.   The youthfully exhuberant all-female St Scholastica's College High School Glee Club, in turn, beat the odds by coming in fourth over-all, way ahead of seasoned veterans University of San Agustin Troubadours, Ateneo de Davao, Ramon Magsaysay-Manila Youth Choir, and the FEU Chorale.

Over 90 choirs vied for slots in this year's nationals via regional eliminations conducted in Cauayan, Isabela; Laoag, Ilocos Norte; Baguio City; Lucena, Naga, Iloilo, Cebu, and Cagayan de Oro.   MBC takes pride in seeing the contest grow to amazing levels, helping to condition the minds of mass audiences that choral music makes for public entertainment.

This year's MBC National Choral Competition was one of the activities under the network's annual Paskong  Pinoy celebrations, and was generously supported by Star City, with support from Smart Communications, Unilab, LBC, Lomotil, M. Lhuillier, and Hanabishi.
